I remember the latter days of the Cold War. The Soviets didn't lose because their tech didn't equal ours... they lost because of the crushing burden of their economic system on their people. Russians are very capable, especially in mathematical fields. Any engineering knowledge they may not have... they can get from partner states. In fact they use a variant of the Iranian "Shahed" UAV (drone) in their arsenal.
